Short & sweet: JUST IN TIME (JIT)

JIT is an essential pillar of the “Lean Enterprise” or Toyota Production System. Materials and products are provided on demand, i.e. exactly when they are needed. JIT makes it possible to drastically and sustainably reduce inventories. When introducing JIT, the processes in production and procurement must be designed in such a way that idle and storage times are avoided accordingly.

Our tip:

To ensure that JIT also works in external procurement, the information and material flow must be adapted to the new organizational form. By involving the suppliers at an early stage, it is possible to achieve the necessary acceptance and to take the suppliers’ requirements for fine-tuning the processes into account in good time.
