Short & sweet: Production lead time

The production throughput time is the period from the start of a production order to its completion. It is divided into set-up, processing and idle times. 80% to 95% of the production throughput time consists of idle times.

Our tip:
To shorten production throughput times, it is usually more effective to reduce idle times rather than set-up and processing times. This can be done by increasing the throughput at the bottleneck, by splitting and overlapping lots and by reducing the order backlog in production.
