Uncovering gaps in SAP scheduling

(PA) Herzogenrath, March 25, 2010 – With the new, unique SAP diagnostic plug-in from Abels & Kemmner, managers can quickly, easily and efficiently gain a comprehensive overview of the data jungle of scheduling and thus immediately recognize the savings potential in their own company’s inventories.

The diagnostic plug was developed by Abels & Kemmner because scheduling is still neglected at management level. This is because too many details and contexts that are difficult to grasp at first glance deter people from taking a closer look. With the new SAP forecasting plug-in, however, strategic analysis of scheduling is child’s play: the Excel-based diagnostic tool takes around 30 minutes to install and synchronize data with SAP. Meaningful pivot tables and charts are then available, which accurately show the optimization potential and thus also liquidity reserves in the inventories.

Thanks to the integrated ABC/XYZ* article matrix, the status of the disposition is quickly visualized (see illustration). It is also easy to see which settings are actually used and how they are distributed in the ABC/XYZ portfolio. Special features or a lack of systematics quickly catch the eye. The SAP diagnostic plug-in answers questions such as whether too few MRP procedures are being used, whether there are flat-rate replenishment times or how stocks are distributed in the portfolio. This means that any need for action can be quickly identified. The tool even automatically identifies realistic inventory reduction potential.

“German companies must learn to plan better,” says Dr. Bernd Reineke, Managing Director of A&K.
Many instruments for sustainable demand-oriented replenishment are still not being used to a sufficient extent: These include optimized replenishment strategies and the ongoing, systematic and, above all, automatic adjustment of replenishment parameters to changes in the market and product portfolio. “Up to 130 logistical master data items per article can no longer be effectively monitored manually by the dispatcher,” warns Reineke. In addition, unsuitable process chains and organizational deficits are also driving up companies’ inventories. The new diagnostic plug reveals all these shortcomings in the disposition. And in an understandable way. For example, implemented help texts help with the interpretation of tables and graphics.
