Artificial intelligence is no substitute for smart action

When I look at the current discussions about IoT and smart materials management, I am always surprised at how often the impression is given that artificial intelligence in particular is the essential element for closing the digitalization gaps in supply chain management and materials management.

There are indeed major gaps in digitalization and the vast treasure trove of supply chain data and documented value stream behavior hidden in our ERP systems is still being used far too little. In some supply chain management processes, e.g. in the area of detailed production planning, artificial intelligence methods can also be used to tap into new potential.
