Short & sweet: 6 S

6 S is an extended concept of “order and cleanliness” developed by Toyota. The aim is to design the workstations in six stages in such a clear and well-structured way that work can be done as efficiently as possible without distraction, searching and long distances (avoiding waste).
The optimization levels include

  1. sorting out what is unnecessary,
  2. the ready-to-hand positioning of tools and parts,
  3. regular independent cleaning of the workplace,
  4. the observance of cleanliness,
  5. practicing the necessary self-discipline and ultimately
  6. internalizing the concept until it becomes a matter of course.

Our tip:
Carry out the first stages of “tidiness and cleanliness” quickly, consistently and comprehensively. This alone will noticeably improve store floor productivity.
