Combining supply chain research and practice

We are involved in the logistics cluster at RWTH Aachen University

By moving into the satellite office in the Logistics Cluster on the campus of the University of Excellence RWTH Aachen, we are now also making our expertise available for knowledge exchange with the Research Institute for Rationalization (FIR) at RWTH Aachen. Together with other companies from industry and the service sector, research and practice are to work together synergistically and produce innovations for the value chains of German companies.

We have always cooperated closely with RWTH Aachen University in order to not only remain at the cutting edge of technology, but also to help shape further technical developments. We have now further expanded this cooperation by joining the Campus Cluster Logistics.

“We are delighted to welcome Abels & Kemmner as a further member of the Logistics Cluster,” explains Professor Dr. Volker Stich, Managing Director of the Research Institute for Rationalization (FIR) at RWTH Aachen University. “In addition to the research work in cooperation with our partners from science, we greatly welcome the intensive contact with our partners from industry. The intensive exchange enables us to design unique methods and tools that are required for the company organization of the future.”

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Volker Stich, Managing Director of the FIR, and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dipl.-Wirt.-Ing. Götz-Andreas Kemmner, Managing Partner of Abels & Kemmner GmbH, are pleased about the intensified cooperation between science and industry

“As our company history began 21 years ago at the FIR, we are now particularly looking forward to being able to work even more closely with research and industry in the Logistics Cluster in the future,” comments our Managing Director Bernd Reineke on the company’s move into its office on the Melaten campus.

Andreas Kemmner, also Managing Partner, adds: “A&K sees itself as a problem solver that solves customers’ problems with a combination of organizational processes and the necessary use of IT, rather than simply pushing through standard software and standard consulting. Being able to work together with colleagues from other business sectors and research in the logistics cluster will not only benefit us, but also the other enrolled members of the logistics cluster and the students – and our customers too, of course.”

As part of the Excellence Initiative of the German federal and state governments to promote science and research at German universities, the Logistics Cluster has been providing the necessary conditions since 2010 to make complex interrelationships in logistics, production and services tangible and researchable. By offering physical proximity and technological infrastructure, networks and information platforms as well as research laboratories are made available.

Over 120 companies are already involved on the RWTH Aachen Campus. Six clusters are currently being implemented on the Melaten Campus: Logistics Cluster, Production Engineering Cluster, Photonics Cluster, Biomedical Engineering Cluster, Heavy-Duty Drives Cluster and Sustainable Energy Cluster.
